Technique first, then you test it

Monday and Wednesday are the core of the week at Delta. Each class takes one position or problem, like escaping mount or passing the guard, and builds it from the details up: grips, angles, where your weight goes. Then you drill it with a partner until it starts to feel natural.

The last part of class is live training, where you use what you learned against someone who's actually resisting. That's the reason jiu-jitsu works: you find out what holds up. New students pair with experienced partners, and a tap stops everything instantly.

Delta teaches in the Relson Gracie lineage, which keeps self-defense close to the center. Alongside the sport techniques you'd use in a tournament, you'll learn to handle a bigger person, get back to your feet safely, and control someone without striking.

How a class runs

  1. Warm-up

Jiu-jitsu movements like shrimping, bridging and technical stand-ups, so your body learns the basics without thinking.

  2. Technique

A coach teaches one position in detail, and you get to ask questions.

  3. Drilling

Reps with a partner at a cooperative pace until the movement is yours.

  4. Live rounds

Positional rounds or full rolls with resistance. Your pace, your call.

Adult Jiu-Jitsu questions

Do I need to take Fundamentals before this class?

No. New students are welcome on Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday Fundamentals is a good addition in your first months because it slows the core positions down.

How often should I train?

Two or three classes a week is a good start. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday are all gi classes, so they fit together easily.

Is gi jiu-jitsu good for self-defense?

Yes. Gracie jiu-jitsu was built for self-defense, and the Relson Gracie lineage Delta trains in keeps it that way. Gi training also teaches grips you can use on jackets and everyday clothes.

Do I need to buy a gi right away?

No. Borrow a loaner while you decide. When you're ready for your own, a coach can help you pick the right size.
