Confidence they can feel

Kids learn to fall safely, get up, hold someone down and escape from underneath: the same skills adults learn, broken into games and short drills that keep them moving. Jiu-jitsu lets them practice at full effort without punching or kicking anyone.

Along the way they practice listening, taking turns, and winning and losing well. Belts and stripes give them goals they can see, and promotion days are a big deal around here.

When the group leans younger or older, coaches split it by age inside the session so everyone trains at the right level. Teens who are ready can move up to adult classes, and Saturday's all-ages class lets them train with a parent.

How a class runs

  1. Warm-up games

Movement games that build balance, coordination and safe falling.

  2. Technique

A coach shows one skill with a demonstration kids can copy.

  3. Drilling

Partner practice matched by size and age.

  4. Rounds

Short, supervised rounds from a set position, with coaches right there.

Kids Jiu-Jitsu questions

My child has never played a sport. Is that okay?

Yes. Kids jiu-jitsu starts from zero, and plenty of kids find their first sport here.

Will my child learn to handle a bully?

Kids learn how to stay safe if someone grabs or pushes them, and how to control a situation without hurting anyone. Just as important, they build the confidence that makes them less likely to be picked on.

Can I watch class?

Yes. There are chairs along the side of the mat, and a refurbished kids' play area for younger siblings.

What about kids who are 13?

Thirteen-year-olds can stay in the kids class or, if they're ready, join adult classes. Coaches will help you decide.
